- The ability to analyse and interpret literary texts by some of the most important Romantic and post-Romantic authors in the English language.

- The ability to write a coherent and inspired medium-long essay about these texts.

3. Inhoud

Romantic Prose Fiction: Jane Austen, Mary Shelley, e.a. 
This course examines Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and other relevant contemporary works by authors such as Mary Wollstonecraft, Horace Walpole, Erasmus Darwin, William Wordsworth, Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley, within the broader context of Romantic prose fiction. This synchronic approach is followed by a diachronic study of Frankenstein adaptations and a comparison with variations on the same theme in the twenty-first century.
