1. Prerequisites *Algemene competenties
Level of French : end of secondary studies = B2 Common European Framework for languages, that is to say vocabulary and expression B2, reading and speaking B2.1, listening and writing B1.2-B2.1.to check your level go to http://www.dialang.org/. This program is available on computers at Scribani, Prinsstraat 10, 2000 Antwerpen.

2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes)
Level B2.2 (CEFR)
After this course you will be able to:
-interpret and summarise texts on scientific topics followed by a PowerPoint presentation and a debate focusing on argumentation and structure;
-manage meetings and minutes;
-draft accurate reports;
-write persuasive business letters and emails
in French.
3. Course content
-Summaries of texts (written or audio) in the field of clinical sciences
-Technical presentations and debates.
-Meetings and minutes.
-Business correspondence, request for an internship, for sponsoring
-Telephone techniques
In lectures students will be familiarised with communication techniques: summary, presentation, argumentation, debate, meetings, minutes, correspondence and telephone techniques in a business context. During practical tutorials students will apply concrete guidelines and models through communicative and functional exercises concentrating on persuasion and structure specific to French culture.

1. Prerequisites *Algemene competenties
With regard to the Common European Framework for Languages (CEFR), we expect you to have for French a B2 level for vocabulary, grammar and all communication skills. Your can
determine your level via Dialang diagnostic tests on www.dialang.org. If your general level is below B2, remedial teaching is recommended. You are then invited to take the French for business and economics II course in the faculty of Applied Economics of our University.

2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes)

You can analyse several types of French oral and written business communication. Your analysis is based upon communication objectives, target groups, the professional and cultural context and features of register and style.

You can implement instructions, techniques and strategies for French business communication and speak and write efficiently in very fluent French.

You can reflect critically upon your own text productions.

You can work in a team.
- You can carry out the tasks punctually and with great precison, even if time is very short.

You gain a clear understanding of the social, political and economic context where French organisations and companies are functioning.
3. Course content
This course is entitled Communication corporate et genres textuels. You discover several text genres and techniques used in French speaking organisations and companies for strategic business communication. You learn about the distinguishing genre features as to content and style and implement the learned techniques by means of assignments, role playing and project-based work. You will deal with :

internal communication
meetings, minutes, work consultation, functioning interviews

business and adminstrative correspondence and e-mails (
Belgian norms, netiquette; asking for sponsorship from companies )

labour market communication
letter of application, CV, jobinterviews, letter of recruitment
- press communication
press releases, press conferences, oral and written interviews

international communication
negociation techniques, administrative documents
You will also explore some important topics of intercultural business communication with French speaking persons, either by reading or by discussing.

1. Prerequisites *Algemene competenties The level reached at the end of the French for Business and Economics 1 course. With regard to the Common European Framework for Languages (CEFR), this means a B2 level for vocabulary and grammar; B2 for reading, oral and conversation skills; B1-B2 for listening and writing skills. These levels can also be determined via oneline Dialang entry tests.

2. Objectives (expected learning outcomes) In-depth study of the CEFR B2 level and preparation for C1 level - Students will be able to use the technical vocabulary in their spoken and written text production. - They will be able to correctly formulate complex compound sentences with subordination. - They will be able to correctly summarise selected thematic texts from the written and spoken press, and interpret and present them with visual support. - They will be able to recognise and use argumentation techniques. - They will be able to correctly and convincingly compose a number of types of business letters and e-mails. - They will become familiar with current socio-economic affairs in the French-language world.
3. Course content Communication skills are studied and trained in greater depth during seminars. Text analysis and text structure are central to the course: applying basic mechanisms and techniques to understand and produce various types of business texts (oral and written). To stimulate self-motivation, students must independently - acquire the economic vocabulary and - if necessary - revise the basic vocabulary; - acquire new complex language structures and - if necessary - revise the basic grammar; - assimilate a number of reading and listening texts on Blackboard.

Gaps in student's knowlegde of French can be detected by the free online diagnotic test Dialang. The lecturers cannot offer remeddal teaching but recommend the students to follow a crash course in a language institute or do practice on the Internet.
