Research
Most of my work revolves around ecology at a landscape level (landscape or spatial ecology) and the quantification of patterns using (freely available) remote sensing and GIS data as my data source. I have particular interest into theoretical ecology, biogeography, GIS, remote sensing, climate and land use change. As a result, most of my work has a multidisciplinary character bordering with mathematics, physics and biogeography. My latest work involves the development of a new validation techniques for classified hyperspectral data using markov random field classification uncertainties and patch derived statistics as part of the HABISTAT project. In my spare time I am the lab's geek, technical illustrator, R reference guide, script kid and linux/unix guru.

A summary of my work can be found in the publication list below. My CV can be found at the end of this page.

Pictures of PLECO lab events can be found HERE (do not be alarmed by apparently strange behaviour of professors or studens alike, this is considered normal :) ).

Technical Illustrations
I have a passion for (classic) drawing, painting and design. Some of my work is online here. However this passion for drawing and design has mixed with my passion for science. The result is a love for technical illustrations and info-graphics. On request I make technical illustrations for lab members, however I'm always open to offers from outside my lab to strengthen my illustration CV.

Below is en example of an illustration I made for a special issue on (global) carbon fluxes.
