| Abstract: | Developmental instability (DI), the sensitivity of a developing system to random noise, is assumed to reflect quality and ''health'' of populations and individuals. However, the literature is very heterogeneous and it is currently impossible to understand the reasons for this heterogeneity because of a lack of insights in the mechanisms that determine levels of DI.
