Steve Paulussen is docent in media en journalistiek en lid van de onderzoeksgroep Media, Beleid en Cultuur (MPC) aan het departement Communicatiewetenschappen van de Universiteit Antwerpen. Van 2000 tot 2012 was hij als onderzoeker verbonden aan de Universiteit Gent. Daarnaast was hij ook deeltijds docent in journalistiek aan de Vrije Universiteit Brussel (2008-2012) en de Erasmushogeschool Brussel (2012). Na het behalen van zijn doctoraat in 2004, met een scriptie over de invloed van het internet op de journalistiek, werkte hij als postdoctoraal onderzoeker mee aan verschillende nationale en internationale projecten, waaronder een internationale studie naar de opkomst van participatieve journalistiek, de IWT-SBO-projecten 'Flemish E-publishing Trends' (FLEET, 2006-2010) en 'User Empowerment in a Social Media Culture' (EMSOC, 2011-2014) en diverse interdisciplinaire onderzoeksprojecten van het Vlaamse onderzoeksinstituut iMinds (voorheen IBBT). Zijn onderzoeksinteresse situeert zich in de eerste plaats op het kruisvlak van journalistiek en nieuwe media, wat tot uiting komt in zijn publicaties over onlinejournalistiek, participatieve journalistiek, het profiel van journalisten, veranderend mediagebruik en innovaties in nieuwsredacties. 

Steve Paulussen is an assistant professor in media and journalism studies at the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Antwerp. He is member of the research group Media, Policy and Culture (MPC). Between 2000 and 2012 he was a researcher at Ghent University, where worked in the research group for Media & ICT (iMinds-MICT) and the Center for Journalism Studies (CJS). He also held part-time lecturer positions at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (2008-2012) and Erasmus University College Brussels (2012). After he obtained his Ph.D. in communication sciences in 2004 with a dissertation on the impact of the Internet on journalism, Paulussen has been involved in several national and international, often interdisciplinary, research projects on digital trends in journalism and media use. Most of his publications focus on different aspects of online journalism, participatory journalism, the professional profile of journalists, new media consumption and newsroom convergence. Paulussen is co-author of the book   Participatory Journalism: Guarding Open Gates at Online Newspapers   (Wiley-Blackwell, 2011) and member of the editorial board of the new journal  Digital Journalism .
