1. PrerequisitesAt the start of this course the student should have acquired the following competences:
2. Learning outcomesBasic knowledge of Kafka’s oeuvre, the ability to apply detailed close readings and to use basic concepts from the most influential literary theories
3. Course contentsAfter an introductory overview of the literary and historical context of Kafka’s oeuvre, a selection of stories will be explained and interpreted. Starting from a variety of perspectives – philosophical, sociological, psycho-analytical, rhetorical – the course will discuss these different approaches and compare them with each other in order to reveal both the complexity of Kafka’s oeuvre and the scope of the potential of literary criticism.
